DFC Training

The RI Digital Forensics Center offers a number of varied training programs for different professionals.

For First Responders
The RI DFC has a 1/2 day or 1-day course for professionals looking to become first responders in the area of digital forensics. These courses will cover basic legal issues associated with digital forensics, how to identify and handle digital evidence in a forensically sound manner, and what you should do with digital evidence once you have taken possession of it. These courses can be held in person at the RI DFC, in person at a location provided by the client, or in an online environment.

For Information Technology Professionals
The RI DFC has a number of introductory courses in Digital Forensics that are appropriate for an IT Professional who is looking to begin learning the basic ideas and concepts of Digital Forensics. The length of the course, content of the course, and manner in which the course is delivered can be easily customized based on the client's needs. Content that is typically covered in this course includes basic legal issues associated with digital forensics, procedures for how to identify, handle, seize, and image digital evidence in a forensically sound manner, and basic analysis techniques for examining digital evidence.

For Digital Forensics Investigators
The RI DFC has a number of intermediate and advanced level courses in Digital Forensics that are appropriate for current Investigators who are looking to strengthen their knowledge in the field. The length of the course, content of the course, and manner in which the course is delivered can be easily customized based on the client's needs. Content that is typically covered in this course includes: advanced techniques for seizing and imaging digital evidence, advanced techniques for analyzing and examining digital evidence, introduction to triaging in a network environment (including an introduction to Microsoft and Linux Server OSs), imaging techniques for a network environment (including imaging RAID devices), and analysis of data obtained from a RAID environment (including rebuilding RAID devices from partial images and rebuilding an entire network inside a VM).

For Legal Professionals
The RI DFC has 2-hour or 4-hour courses for attorneys and judges looking to better understand the legal issues relating to digital evidence. Through these courses attorneys and judges can better understand the laws, rulings, and legal issues associated with Digital Evidence. These courses also aim to educate Legal Professionals on how digital evidence should be handled in a forensically sound manner as well as what to expect when working with an Expert in the area of Digital Forensics. *These courses can even be offered for Continuing Legal Education(CLE) credit for attorneys.
