Digital Investigations
As technology advances, digital evidence plays a more significant role in many investigations. The RI DFC staff is trained to properly handle digital evidence in a way that it will be admissible in court. Forensically sound images of the digital media are made to protect the original data. Specialized forensic tools are then used to perform analysis such as: recovering deleted files, tracing internet history, searching for keywords, and reviewing email. After the analysis has been completed, a forensic report of the findings can be provided as well as expert testimony, if necessary.
The RI DFC offers a "Quick Look" service for clients who are not be sure whether a piece of digital media contains evidence. The DFC offers a "Quick Look" service that will perform a basic analysis to see if a complete investigation involving the digital evidence is warranted. This "Quick Look" service includes a one hour meeting with a DFC staff member to discuss the case, a forensically sound image of the drive for the DFC staff to perform an analysis on, and 2 hours of analysis time. This service is provided at a low flat rate, allowing clients to determine whether it is worth spending the additional funds necessary to complete a full investigation. Please contact the RI DFC for more information.
